Larsen, who had a career 81-91 record, retired in 1968 after pitching for the Yankees, St. Louis Browns, Baltimore Orioles, Kansas City Athletics, Chicago White Sox, San Francisco Giants, Houston Colt .45s, Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs. But Larsen had two close calls in the game. In the second inning, he gave up a line drive off third baseman Andy Carey's glove by Jackie Robinson, who was thrown out by shortstop Gil McDougald. And in the fifth inning, Gil Hodges hit a long drive to left-center that was pulled in on a back-handed catch by Mickey Mantle.OBITUARY:That 2-0 victory gave the Yankees a 3-2 lead in the Series they eventually won in seven games.
After baseball, Larsen worked as a salesman in California, then retired to Hayden Lake near Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, 100 miles from the Canadian border, with his wife, Corinne.
