The hotel business of Australia’s sixth-richest person, Harry Triguboff, has been hit by cyber crime.

Meriton, the property development company owned by Harry Triguboff, the country’s sixth-richest person, joined the ranks of corporate Australian victims of cybercrime when it suffered a data hack in mid-January, it has emerged.

The company played down the significance of the hack, saying it had contacted the Australian Cyber Security Centre and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner after the January 14 attack, and that the OAIC had closed its file on the matter last week. Meriton said hotel incident reports, such as for guest injuries incurred onsite, could have been breached.“Guest data was not stolen. The guest information that may have been affected relates to incident reports,” the company said.It is a small attack in the context of the wave of cyber hacks hitting Australian companies such as telecoms giant Optus and health insurer Medibank.said an attacker this month had stolen the driver’s licence numbers of 7.

Meriton did not disclose how the data hack occurred, only to say it had strengthened its defences after the incident.
