The Water Department is keeping tabs on the quality of the raw water being channelled to its Kg Ulau Treatment Plant in Sipitang, which has been operating intermittently for the past week.
Since May 25, the turbidity of Sg Mengalong has periodically become more pronounced due to the inclement weather which the town has been experiencing. A spokesman for the agency said activities at the Plant had to be brought to a halt for hours at a time whenever the murkiness of the river water became too high.
The spokesman said output from the Kg Ulau Plant had dropped substantially because of the frequent shutdowns. This MSCL distribution mains was moved to allow for the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway.Under normal circumstances, he said, between 15 to 16 million litres of treated water was produced daily at the facility.
“Our technicians had a look at the supply line leading to the village yesterday and cleared any airlocks inside,” he said.
