Rozma Yunus, a 56-year-old daycare assistant, denied the charges of defrauding two individuals of over RM1.6 million through bogus investment schemes between 2017 and 2022.

A daycare assistant, Rozma Yunus, 56, pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate's Court today on two charges of cheating two individuals over non-existent investments amounting to more than RM1.6 million between 2017 and 2022. The charges against Rozma were read separately before Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli and Magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali.

For the first charge, Rozma, along with another person still at large, was accused of deceiving a 57-year-old man into making payments into three bank accounts belonging to the accused online, totalling RM1,545,824 for non-existent investments. The offense was allegedly committed in Kampung Tok Dagang, near here, from August 20, 2021, to April 1, 2022. Magistrate Nurul Saqinah set bail at RM3,000 with one surety for the accused, represented by Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangsaan (YBGK) lawyer Lee Boon Shian, while the prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nik Nur A’qilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi. Rozma was also charged with deceiving a 59-year-old woman to make payments into two online bank accounts totaling RM97,800 for the same purpose in Taman Panchor Jaya, Paroi, from July 2017 to 2022. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nadia Ezzati Mohd Zainal offered bail of RM20,000 with the additional condition that the accused not interfere with the victim. Magistrate Syed Farid allowed the accused to be bound over RM9,000 with one surety and set February 4 this year for mention of both cases. Both charges were filed under Section 420 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same code, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years' imprisonment and whipping upon conviction
