A Dallas police officer who turned himself in Thursday on a misdemeanor charge is accused of choking an arrested man at a hospital with a type of hold...

Revised at 7:42 p.m. to include a statement from the officer's attorney.

Rogers said in a written statement that the affidavit “contains conflicting statements from multiple witnesses that cannot and should not stain the career of a committed public servant.” Bristo escorted Cox, who had lost consciousness, to Parkland Memorial Hospital — where witnesses later told police Cox became agitated with Bristo, causing an argument, according to the affidavit.

Cox told police that Bristo grabbed him by his Adam’s apple and applied pressure, the affidavit said. He then yelled for Bristo to stop and multiple witnesses told Bristo he needed to leave, the affidavit said. Cox could not immediately be reached for comment about the incident. Records show he was cited for public intoxication.

He said Bristo is respected amongst his peers. He’s trained “many, many officers” through the police academy and in-service office, he added.
