Anyone who violates this ordinance could receive a $100 ticket, and those who do it a second time could be fined $500. “Unfortunately, weather conditions are leading to significant smoke pollution buildup throughout the region that is expected to cause unhealthy air quality through the Christmas holiday,” said Sharon Landers, the air district’s interim executive officer, in the release.
“Low overnight temperatures, patchy dense fog and limited vertical mixing will continue to trap wood smoke at ground level, leading to unhealthy air quality in the Bay Area,” the release explained.
