Wet, unsettled weather returns to the Bay Area after the holiday weekend.

models are pointing to a moisture-rich system soaking the region on Dec. 27 and 28, the National Weather Service said.

After a bout of dry weather, rain returns to the Bay Area today, but it will be so light that you may not even need an umbrella."The best chance for rain is in the North Bay," said Brooke Bingaman, a forecaster with the weather service."You might get a few sprinkles in the rest of the Bay Area, but the bulk of it will be in the North Bay. And when I say a bulk of it, I mean a tenth of an inch. This will be a light rain event.

While North Bay valleys are predicted to measure 0.10 inch, the Sonoma coast could see up to 0.25 inch. The weekend and Christmas holiday are expected to be dry, which is great news if you want to get outdoors."We'll be in a little bit of a warm spell," Bingaman said."Afternoon temperatures will be in the 60s to the low 70s for much of the area, and we're looking at dry weather."

Wet, unsettled weather returns to the region after the holiday weekend on Dec. 27 and 28. The storm is still five days away, so projected rainfall totals could change in coming days, but as of Thursday morning, the weather service forecasts 2 to 3 inches in the North Bay, with higher elevations seeing up to 4 inches. San Francisco and the central Bay Area could measure 1 to 2 inches, while the Santa Cruz Mountains may record up to 4, the weather service said.
