PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 993 new Covid-19 infections on Saturday (Dec 17), says the Health Ministry.

Data released on its KKMNow portal early on Sunday showed that the cumulative total has increased to 5,017,016 cases since the pandemic began.The ministry also recorded 1,460 recoveries on Saturday.

There are currently 16,049 active cases, of which 15,011 individuals are undergoing home quarantine while 985 individuals require hospitalisation. Of this number, 53 are warded in intensive care units throughout the country, with 29 requiring ventilator support. There were five fatalities recorded, three of which were categorised as brought in dead. This takes the Covid-19 death toll to 36,800 since the pandemic started.
