PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,138 new Covid-19 infections on Friday (Dec 16), says the Health Ministry.
Data released on its KKMNow portal early on Saturday showed that the cumulative total has increased to 5,016,023 cases since the pandemic began.
Of the 1,138 cases, there were two imported cases while the remaining 1,136 were local transmissions.There are currently 16,521 active cases, of which 15,413 individuals are undergoing home quarantine while 1,052 individuals require hospitalisation. Of this number, 56 are warded in intensive care units throughout the country, with 37 requiring ventilator support.
There were eight fatalities recorded, three of which were categorised as brought in dead. This takes the Covid-19 death toll to 36,795 since the pandemic started.
