KOTA KINABALU: Some RM20mil in revenue is lost each year due to illegal electricity connections in Sabah and Labuan.
Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd general manager Addie Ahmad said such power theft activities were also known to cause about 25% of the electricity disruption in both areas.
“That’s why we are carrying out an integrated operation today to eradicate illegal power connections in Kampung Numbak, which was one of the squatter colonies identified,” he said yesterday. “The operation is not only to ensure that SESB does not incur more losses, but also to make sure safety is emphasised as the illegal connections involve wiring that does not meet the required standards,” Addie said.
For example, he said, some residents falsely warned that the bridges leading to their dwellings were unpassable due to their wobbly condition.
