Its Chief Executive Officer, EdainSabah, said that increasing air connectivity is one of Sabah’s top priorities and a key enabler for the continued growth of the state tourism industry, given that more than 90 percent of Sabah’s visitors arrive by air.

Currently, Sabah’s international entry points are via Singapore, Bandar Seri Begawan , Taipei, Hong Kong, Narita , Incheon , Busan , Manila , and Bangkok . Airlines that provide direct routes between Sabah and these nine overseas destinations with a frequency of 72 flights per week include Air Asia, Scoot, Royal Brunei, Malaysia Airlines, Jeju Air, Jin Air, Air Busan, and Cebu Pacific.

To better serve tourists and business visitors, Route Asia presents Sabah with the chance to promote its attractions, tourism offerings, and infrastructure to a diverse audience of aviation and travel industry experts, which in turn assists Sabah in attracting additional airlines and air routes. These initiatives would be a welcome addition to Sabah’s established connections, the most recent of which is the direct route from Busan operated by Jin Air since December 2022.
