Syed Zulkhairi Zainuddin, 44, was charged in court for six counts of cheating and misappropriation of RM116,000.

A contractor was charged at the Seremban Magistrate's Court today on six counts of cheating involving non-existent investments and misappropriating a man's property worth a total of RM116,000, early last year. The accused, Syed Zulkhairi Zainuddin, 44, however, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out separately before Magistrate, Syed Farid Syed Ali.

According to three charges, Syed Zulkhairi was found to have cheated a 46-year-old man by deceiving him into investing in a non-existent investment and fraudulently urging the victim to hand over RM40,000 into bank accounts under the names of two individuals. The accused was also charged with misappropriating a property belonging to the victim, worth a total of RM76,000, which was deposited into bank accounts under the names of two individuals for his own use. All these offenses were committed between January 26 and 31, 2024, at Taman Pulai Impian, Sikamat here and if found guilty under Section 420 and Section 403 of the Penal Code, he faces a jail sentence of not less than one year and a maximum of 10 years with whipping and a fine. Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor, Nadia Izzati Mohd. Zainal offered bail of RM6,000 for each charge. Lawyer, Mohd. Hanif Hassan representing the accused pleaded for a lower bail on the grounds that his client earned RM2,000 a month and was supporting his wife and three children aged six to 12. The court then allowed the accused to be released on bail of RM18,000 for all six charges and the next mention on February 4th
