Malayan philanthropist Uncle Kentang's recent request for Sports Toto winners to donate towards an ambulance purchase has faced backlash, leading to one company withdrawing its commitment. Uncle Kentang, known for his charitable work, explained the situation on his Facebook page, stating that negative comments had influenced the company's decision. Despite the setback, he remains optimistic and emphasizes the critical need for a fleet of ambulances to ensure uninterrupted service for those in need.
Recently, Malaysian philanthropist, Uncle Kentang , made a heartfelt appeal to Sports Toto winners, urging them to contribute a portion of their winnings to purchase an ambulance for his worthy cause. He also extended his invitation to companies to join in this noble endeavor. While his intention was commendable, the request was met with a wave of negativity from some quarters.
Many individuals voiced their disapproval, arguing that Uncle Kentang should not burden Sports Toto winners with his request. This backlash has now taken a tangible toll, as Uncle Kentang revealed on his Facebook page that a company had withdrawn its commitment to donate an ambulance due to the negative publicity surrounding his posts. He shared, 'We were supposed to receive 3 ambulances. But, one company canceled due to negative publicity on social media. One has paid the deposit, and another company has pledged, and asked us to go ahead and buy another ambulance.' Uncle Kentang expressed understanding for the company's decision, stating, 'In my work, I am not angry about negative comments. Because they do not understand us and have hearsay or are being influenced by others.' He went on to explain the necessity for a fleet of ambulances to ensure sustained service and longevity in assisting those in need. 'All ambulances are closely monitored and all journeys are well-tracked. Ambulances need to rest too. We alternate the ambulances so that they can last longer,' he emphasized. He further elaborated on the extensive geographical reach of his ambulance service, stating, 'We serve the North to Perlis, and the South to Johor, covering Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Melaka, Perak, Penang, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, for discharges from Klang Valley hospitals in case of LAST RIDES for patients to go home and pass away. Our ambulances must rest for longer journeys,' he said. Uncle Kentang added that the doctors and nurses he collaborates with can attest to the efficacy of his ambulance service. 'We cannot blame the company who pulled the handbrake (on donating an ambulance) as they do not fully understand us,' he concluded. Addressing those who had expressed negativity, he issued a heartfelt plea, 'For those who commented, I invite you to think of the poor, sick and bedridden, before laying down your comments. It can be your loved ones needing an ambulance and by then, it may be a bit too late. We should consider supporting good causes. Do not kill good initiatives for the people. Thank you,' he added.
