) model is powered by a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. In Chevy's entry-level WT and LT trims, that engine is known as the L2R. The base motor is good for 237 hp and 259 lb-ft of torque. Step up to the Z71 or Trail Boss models and the more potent LB3 engine variant comes as standard. Chevy refers to this powertrain as the Turbo Plus, providing 310 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque to the midsizer.
While the L2R and LB3 engines are virtually identical, the base motor lacks the oil squirters needed to safely provide ZR2-levels of output. While that’s not to say you couldn’t tune the L2R in the with similar results, this package is obviously backed by a factory warranty. That brings some added peace of mind that many truck customers need when it comes to their machines.
