While this lessens oil consumption and cost, it also restricts the amount of power that the engine can safely generate. Piston squirters aside, the L2R engine is backed by a lesser 8L45 automatic transmission, which is smaller, lighter, and features different gear ratios than the new second-generation 8L80 transmission used behind the L3B four banger. While in theory the base L2R can be tuned to the same 430 lb-ft, don't do it… you'll melt the pistons and scatter the transmission.
