EXECUTIVE Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Saturday presided over the formal change of command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines with Gen. Andres Castor Centino succeeding Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro as the new and 59th AFP Chief of Staff.Bacarro, who was appointed by President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. in August last year was awarded during the ceremony with the Distinguished Service Star, for his exemplary performance in leading the AFP despite his few months at the helm.
'During his stint as 57th chief of staff, Centino implemented four major thrusts within the military.These included the operational efficiency, optimal use of resources, advancement of professionalism and meritocracy within the organization, and capability development.Under his leadership, the Armed Forces successfully launched military campaigns to combat insurgents and local terrorist groups resulting in the dismantling of guerilla fronts and the clearing of affected communities.
