The High Court in Kuala Lumpur heard allegations today that billions of ringgit were misappropriated from SRC International, with claims that former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was involved in channeling funds to Umno and Selangor Umno through a slush fund. Lawyers representing SRC International and its subsidiaries presented evidence suggesting Najib's role as a shadow director in the company and his direct involvement in issuing cheques worth millions to the political parties. The plaintiffs are seeking RM16 million from Umno and RM3.5 million from Selangor Umno, alleging that these funds were wrongfully transferred.

The High Court in Kuala Lumpur heard claims today that billions of ringgit were diverted, embezzled, and misused, with allegations that the United Malays National Organisation ( Umno ) received funds from a massive slush fund linked to SRC International. Lawyer Razlan Hadri Zulkifli, representing SRC International and its subsidiaries, Gandingan Mentari Sdn Bhd and Jendela Pinggiran Sdn Bhd, presented the opening statement in a trial that began in May 2021.

He asserted that former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was the shadow director of SRC International and directly involved in issuing cheques worth RM16 million and RM3.5 million to Umno and Selangor Umno, respectively. According to Razlan Hadri, the directors and authorized signatories of Jendela Pinggiran issued blank cheques to Najib, who then handed them over to the political parties. He argued that the court would see evidence demonstrating Najib's role as a shadow director and imputing his knowledge of the funds' source and their use or abuse to the defendants. He further stated that Najib wore 'two hats' in this case, acting as both the Advisor Emeritus (shadow director) of SRC International, Gandingan Mentari, and Jendela Pinggiran, and as the president of Umno and Selangor Umno. The lawsuit against Umno seeks RM16 million, claimed to have been wrongly transferred to the political party with no valid basis for receipt. The second lawsuit seeks RM3.5 million from Badan Perhubungan Umno Selangor (Selangor Umno), also accused of receiving the funds. Razlan Hadri explained that the money originated from KWAP loans granted to SRC in 2011 and 2012, totaling RM4 billion. Of this amount, RM3.6 billion was transferred to SRC’s foreign subsidiary, SRC International (Malaysia) Ltd, incorporated in the British Virgin Islands, for foreign investment activities in the energy and resource sector. The remaining RM400 million was retained by SRC in Malaysia for working capital. He emphasized that the current case focused on this RM400 million 'working capital' sum. The first witness called in the trial was Saiful Nizam Yassin, 54, the Deputy General Manager of Prokhas Sdn Bhd and company secretary of SRC, Jendela Pinggiran, and Gandingan Mentari at the time. Lawyers Mohamed Shahrul Fazli Kamarulzaman and Datuk Hasnal Rezua Merican and Muzzammil Merican Hasnal Rezua represented Umno and Selangor Umno respectively.
