Many don't care about carbon emissions because there's no law regulating them, says expert FMTNews Putrajaya
Under the Paris Agreement, Malaysia has pledged to reduce its emissions by 35% of its 2005 levels by the year 2030.
“There needs to be a formal mechanism in place so that businesses can monitor, report and verify their carbon footprints,” he said.“At the moment, many don’t seem to care because there is no legislation that requires them to report their emissions.” Ideally, he said, the act should set legally binding targets for the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in line with treaties such as the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit the rise of the average global temperature to 1.5 degrees by the end of this century.
