Australia’s packaging industry will soon be subject to new waste regulations after a failure to meet voluntary targets of cutting landfill in recent years.

Manufacturers will have to comply with new design standards which will see the use of harmful chemicals in food packaging regulated under a raft of measures set to be introduced.

The news has been welcomed by environmental groups who say it will assist many businesses in their transition to more sustainable products.
