Belconnen has grown rapidly in the last decade or so and is now home to many of Canberra's tallest residential buildings. But residents want future development to take into account the green spaces on the ground.

After rapid development, it's now home to six out of ten of Canberra's tallest residential buildings.By the year 2063, that figure could be closer to 20,800.

On the whole, she loves living in what she described as a "well-managed" building which is near to amenities like shops and even a small park."There's lots of social activities - which was a pleasant surprise." Stressing that she was not opposed to further development, Ms Bartlett said she would like to see new builds not swallow up all available land.Chair of the Belconnen Community Council Lachlan Butler agrees with the need for better planning.

Mr Butler said this was particularly important for residents of apartments who needed "third spaces" to escape to. While the ACT government has identified maintaining and preserving Belconnen's green spaces in its district strategy for the region, Mr Butler said the onus should also be on developers."Development should add to the environment around it. It shouldn't just be a block of apartments put on a block with no interaction with the land around it."

She also said there was a difference in the way people interacted with indoor spaces, like shopping malls, compared with outdoor ones.
