Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim defends his record against accusations of corruption, emphasizing that he has only been in office for two years and that past cases were resolved before his time. He criticizes the selective focus on past allegations while ignoring billions of ringgit lost by the government.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his displeasure with accusations from certain parties, including the opposition, regarding past corruption cases that occurred and were resolved outside his tenure as Prime Minister. Anwar explained that he has only been leading the country for two years. \\\He cited the case of Sabah's former Governor, Tun Musa Aman, whose corruption allegations were dropped during the opposition's time in power.
Anwar stated that when the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM) reopened the case during his premiership, it could not be pursued further. \\\He questioned how he could be criticized for not being involved in a case that originated before his time in office. Anwar emphasized his commitment to addressing corruption during his current term, regardless of the level, and vowed not to condone any wrongdoing. He also noted the selective outrage surrounding billions of ringgit lost by the government, with some parties remaining silent or even defending the situation. Anwar firmly declared that if any leader within the Madani Government is found to be involved in corruption, he would personally take action against them. This statement comes after some parties, including the opposition, questioned the appointment of Musa as the Governor of Sabah, citing his alleged past involvement in corruption. In June 2020, the High Court acquitted and discharged Tun Musa from 46 charges of corruption and money laundering related to timber concession contracts in Sabah
