Following a RM10,000 reward for information on animal mutilations at Universiti Malaya (UM), another mutilated cat was discovered on campus, prompting the Selangor SPCA to urge the public to provide any information regarding the incident.

Just hours after a RM10,000 reward was offered for anyone who can provide information on the mutilation of animals at Universiti Malaya (UM), another mutilated cat was found at the campus. The Selangor Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), which is offering the reward, said: “This appalling cruelty is not just heartbreaking; it is a grave criminal act under the Animal Welfare Act 2015.

” The society will hold a press conference on Jan 7 at its office in Ampang to provide further details on the bounty.“Together, we can ensure justice for these innocent animals and prevent future tragedies,” its chairman Christine Chin said in a statement. “Reward campaigns have proven effective in addressing animal cruelty,” she said, adding that a similar initiative in Penang halted poisoning incidents. The Selangor SPCA urged anyone with information to channel anonymous tip-offs via 011-5118 9716 or [email protected] the exact cause of the mutilations remains unknown, the incidents highlight the need for a thorough and unbiased investigation, it said. “Whether the injuries result from human actions or stray animal interactions, it is vital to determine the facts and implement measures to prevent further harm,” it said. Selangor SPCA said studies had shown that intentional harm to animals can escalate to crimes against humans.“By investigating all angles, we can address the root causes – be it human cruelty or inadequate stray management – and work towards meaningful solutions,” added Chin. Meanwhile, the UM Students’ Union said the latest carcass was found yesterday outside the university’s faculty of medicine, adding that it would be lodging a police report.
