Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is expected to promise $200 million for women’s sport following the Matildas’ success on and off the field at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Matildas’ World Cup campaign has broken TV ratings records, united the nation more than any other female sporting event in history and shined a light on the need for greater investment into women's sports.
“We want women and girls everywhere in Australia to have the facilities and the support to choose a sport they love.” She added that the $200 million would be spent on making sure females have appropriate equipment suited to their needs. The report said there women and girls represented 174,609 participants in outdoor, social and registered football, a 21 per cent increase from 2020-2021, with another boost expected after the World Cup.
