The AFL has reportedly proposed a ‘Nick Daicos rule’ as part of a major contract overhaul that could come into effect with the next collective bargaining agreement. 7NEWS

But that decision would restrict genuine stars from capitalising on their early-career form with a pay day in their third season.

The AFL’s reported proposal includes a new caveat that top-20 draftees cannot sign a contract extension until the end of their second season.AFL Photos via Getty Images The 20-year-old’s current wage after match payments and bonuses is set to come in at approximately $250,000, while the early extension - signed before he had proved himself at AFL level - could be worth ‘just’ $1 million over the next two years.

Daicos’s true annual value has already been pegged at upwards of $850,000 - hundreds of thousands more than he will collect in the coming seasons.
