A key Brisbane Lions recruit has missed the cut, and a crucial defender has failed to recover for the Carlton Blues clash, with Chris Fagan coy on whether the latter will be fit for a possible grand final.
Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan has declared he would never pick a player nursing any sort of injury, as key defender Jack Payne was officially ruled out of Saturday night’s clash with Carlton.
He said should the Lions fight their way through to the grand final, Payne would still not be a guaranteed inclusion. “I don’t think it helps the player when he’s got to go out there and play on the big stage, it’s asking a lot. “In the last final he played against Williamstown [in the VFL] he was our best player, so we think as unfortunate as it is for Jack and us that he can’t play, Darcy is a fantastic replacement.”
