Accusations are flying thick and fast in the spectacular falling out between Andrew Forrest and Mike Cannon-Brookes over the collapsed $35 billion green energy venture.
The gloves are off as tech titan Mike Cannon-Brookes and billionaire miner Andrew Forrest trade blows over Sun Cable.
The Forrest camp broke its silence to take aim at Mr Cannon-Brookes, and Sun Cable founders David Griffin and brothers Mac and Fraser Thompson. The shock collapse of the company behind the proposed solar power export venture to Singapore has triggered a war of words between two of Australia’s richest men ahead of a sale process for the company which will pit them on opposing sides.
The dispute between the Forrest camp, represented by Squadron, and Grok and the Sun Cable founders was brewing last year and blew up in December over the conditions of making available the final $60 million tranche ofSources within both camps point to missed hurdles that required variations to be agreed for the release of the funding, at which point differences between Grok and Squadron could not be overcome.
He said investments in 5B by major investors, including most recently British energy major BP, spoke to confidence in the technology. Meanwhile, the collapse of Sun Cable has further stoked scepticism in some quarters about the technical and economic viability of building the Australia-Asia PowerLink project, which would involve the world’s biggest solar farm, biggest battery storage plant and longest underwater power cable to Singapore.
