Alice Springs Mayor Matt Paterson says the “absolute carnage” taking place in his town is heart-breaking as the crime situation ramps up.

He said all crime statistics are going the “wrong direction”, with house and commercial break-ins rising as well as domestic violence calls.

“We got told that more policing down here is not sustainable for Alice Springs, well the level of crime and anti-social behaviour here is not sustainable for Alice Springs to continue either,” he told Sky News host Paul Murray.
