KUALA LUMPUR: The country should enact a state immunity Act to protect itself from any foreign claims, says Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said the government has never acknowledged or recognised the legitimacy of the self-proclaimed Sulu sultanate heirs. She added that the Sulu case presents a complex dispute which involves a myriad of fundamental issues affecting the arbitration community and stakeholders, as well sovereign states.
"We must consider this strategy to prepare certain claims," she said in her keynote address at the International Arbitration Colloquium 2023 here on Tuesday .Sovereign immunity or state immunity is a legal doctrine where one sovereign state cannot be sued before the courts of another sovereign state without its unequivocal consent.
