JOHOR BARU: A total of 901 people have been arrested in Johor for defying the movement control order (MCO) between March 18 and April 5, says state police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
He said the number includes 48 new arrests that were made on Sunday alone, and were aged between 19 and 66.
"The cases are being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code, Section 22 of the Prevention and Control of Infections Disease 1998 , Rule 3 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2020," he said in a statement on Monday . Comm Ayob urged the public to cooperate with the authorities and abide by the MCO to avoid the spread of Covid-19.
"Police are hoping to see greater public cooperation," he said, warning that stricter action would be taken against those disobeying phase two of the MCO. Comm Ayob urged those with enquiries and information to contact the state police hotline at 07-2212999 or the nearest police stations.
