At least 54 more Filipino seafarers from Ukraine arrived in the Philippines, an official of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Tuesday.

DFA Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Sarah Lou Arriola said the department welcomed the arrival of 54 Filipino seafarers from Ukraine on Monday.

Arriola said 14 of the seafarers came from MV Bolten Ithaki, seven from MV Ithaca Prospect, 12 from MV Polar Star, and 21 from MV Riva Wind. Russia began its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, prompting the Philippine government to enforce a mandatory repatriation of Filipinos there and a total deployment ban.

The Philippines earlier appealed for an immediate cessation of violence in Ukraine, and called on the parties involved to forge a peace accord. —
