Konsortium Jaringan Selangor Sdn. Bhd. has accomplished the construction of 107 high-technology telecommunication towers in Mersing and Kluang, Johor to enhance 4G network coverage. The project aims to bridge the digital divide in strategic areas previously lacking internet access. The towers are expected to boost the nation's competitiveness and provide improved telecommunications for communities.
Shah Alam: Konsortium Jaringan Selangor Sdn. Bhd. has been appointed to carry out the Jalinan Digital Negara ( Jendela ) Cluster 18 project, which involves the construction of 107 high-technology telecommunication towers to expand 4G coverage in Mersing and Kluang , Johor . This coverage encompasses strategic areas in the two districts that previously lacked internet access as part of an effort to strengthen the country's digital infrastructure by enhancing connectivity among communities.
Nurzie Ibrahim, Director of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) Johor, stated that out of the total number, 91 towers are fully operational, while another 16 are expected to be functioning in stages by the third quarter of this year. “With advanced infrastructure and high-quality services, we can enhance the country's competitiveness on a global scale. The towers are also being constructed according to the schedule set for the fourth quarter of 2024,” he said in a statement today after the Launching Ceremony for the Delivery of 107 Telecommunication Towers under the JENDELA Phase 1 Project. According to the statement, Konsortium Jaringan Selangor plays a key role in completing a significant portion of the project as part of the development of Malaysia's digital ecosystem. Ahmad Fahman Ismail Hadi Tang, its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), informed that digital transformation plays a crucial role in the country's economic development. “Mastering digital transformation is essential in driving economic growth and national renewal. It acts as a catalyst for a more advanced and competitive digital era,” he stated. The statement further revealed that in addition to the tower construction, the project also extends its network to tourist islands around Mersing, ensuring seamless digital access in remote areas. Several additional locations are also being developed on private land and areas under the jurisdiction of the Johor State Forestry Department to further expand the project's coverage. In November last year, all designated locations were handed over, marking the successful implementation of this digital transformation project. “Konsortium Jaringan Selangor Sdn Bhd remains committed to supporting the nation's digital agenda and ensuring that communities have access to better telecommunication services,” he concluded. – UTUSA
