SINGAPORE: A Singapore Exchange (SGX) unit has denied claims from a Geneva-based commodities trader that it failed to meet its statutory and contractual obligations in producing a key benchmark for the cost of shipping oil from the Middle East.
PETALING JAYA: Malaysians may have to pay more for food in the coming months as rising costs continue to drive up prices, says the Agriculture and Food Security Minister.
Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said while the country’s food supply remained stable for now, prices may spike soon.
“Over the next three to six months, there may be some pressure on food prices. This is due to rising costs for fertiliser, animal feed and fuel.
“For example, animal feed costs account for up to 70% of chicken production, while fertiliser can make up 40% to 50% of the cost of vegetables. Mohamad said the government has taken early steps, including setting up the National Economic Action Council, to keep supply stable and prices under control.
“At the same time, we can all help by spending prudently, avoiding waste and prioritising essential needs.
