SINGAPORE: A domestic helper who was allegedly raped by a tourist at an open field in Short Street was sexually assaulted by another man just minutes later.
KOTA KINABALU: Only local brew s are allowed to be sold at the traditional houses during this year’s state-level Kaamatan open house at the Kadazandusun Cultural Association on May 30 and 31, says Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam .
The Deputy Chief Minister I said other alcoholic beverages were prohibited from being served or sold within these specific areas during the two-day event. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to attend on May 30, while the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah will attend on May 31.
“But other alcoholic beverages are still sold outside the traditional houses areas,” Gunsalam said, referring to tents set up in other sections of the KDCA grounds. The KDCA grounds are divided into several sections, including ethnic houses used for cultural displays and separate areas comprising a hall, parking and space for vendors selling food, drinks and handicrafts.
New rules have also been drawn up to ensure a better celebration of one of the most significant events for Sabah natives. Patrons and traders are required to maintain decorum, avoid rude or lewd behaviour and refrain from drink-driving.
Gunsalam reminded patrons to preserve the spirit of the celebration, which is a sign of thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest and a means to unite the community.
