Rapid Rail says the damaged train could not be moved without risking further damage to signalling and track safety systems.
PETALING JAYA: Rapid Rail has carried out a fleet-wide inspection of its trains following the disruption on the Kelana Jaya LRT line yesterday caused by damage to a train’s component at the Kelana Jaya station.
In a Facebook post, Rapid Rail said its engineering team immediately conducted comprehensive checks across the fleet to ensure that all linear induction motor systems were functioning safely and optimally. Rapid Rail said preliminary investigations found that the incident stemmed from a damaged LIM cover on train number 92 while it was stationed at the Kelana Jaya platform. The damage rendered the train immobile, disrupting schedules and affecting operations along the line.
The rail operator said that moving the train in its damaged condition could have resulted in more severe consequences, including damage to the signalling system and the platform intrusion emergency stop system located on the tracks. PIES is a safety mechanism designed to detect objects or passengers who fall onto the tracks to help prevent accidents at stations.
The company said it was also conducting a root cause analysis, with findings expected to guide long-term mitigation measures including improvements to operational procedures and rail systems. Rapid Rail also apologised to passengers affected by the disruption.
