Flash floods were reported at several main roads in Kuala Lumpur, including Kuchai Link , and a food court in Petaling Jaya. PETALING JAYA: Several areas in the Klang Valley have been hit by flash floods following heavy rain and strong winds, with main roads inundated by rising floodwaters.

New Pantai Expressway Infoline reported a full closure of the Kuchai Link, from Sungai Besi to Jalan Klang Lama, at 3.55pm following flash floods.

“NPE Patrol is controlling traffic at the location, with traffic moving slowly for 2km towards the affected area,” it said in a post on X. NPE Infoline also reported the closure of the left and centre lanes at Km18.9 of the highway, near the Maju Jaya U-turn, heading towards Bangsar, due to flooding. Meanwhile, Astro Audio Traffic posted on X that flash floods and stagnant water near Desa Tun Razak are adding to the traffic congestion from the Ampang Lotus's outlet.

It also reported that flash floods near the Kuchai Lama MRT station caused a jam in both directions between the Sungai Besi Expressway and Kuchaimas Residence. Separately, Astro Audio Traffic posted on X that flash floods near the BH petrol station along Jalan 222 here is causing traffic congestion from the Federal Highway, Aman roundabout and Jalan Templer.

The Selangor fire and rescue department said in a statement it received an emergency call at 4.15pm about flooding at a food court on Jalan 51A/223, Section 51A, near here. Operations commander Meor Azmirrudin Miau Kamarudin reported that floodwaters in the food court area were estimated to be about 1.2m deep. Several vehicles were also found submerged in the food court parking area.

“No evacuation was carried out and water levels are reported to be gradually receding,” he said. Earlier, the meteorological department had warned that thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds would affect nine states and the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan until 5pm today. The warning covers areas in Kedah, Perak, Penang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Melaka, as well as Sabah and Sarawak.
