Malaysian among eight killed in Kalimantan chopper crash, says Wisma Putra

JEDDAH: Johor Darul Ta'zim's (JDT) hopes of becoming the first Malaysian club to reach the AFC Champions League (ACL) Elite semi-finals were dashed after a narrow 1-2 defeat to defending champions Al-Ahli on Friday (April 17).

KUALA LUMPUR: Patrick Kee Chuan Peng, the Chief Operating Officer of KPN Plantations, has been identified as a Malaysian victim who died in a helicopter crash in West Kalimantan . Wisma Putra said in a statement that Kee was in West Kalimantan , Indonesia , on work-related matters when the incident occurred on Thursday .

Kee is one of eight people who perished in the crash. Other victims include pilot Capt Marindra W, technician Harun Arasyid and five passengers: Victor T, Charles L, Joko C, Fauzie O and Sugito. The helicopter, a PK-CFX operated by Matthew Air Nusantara, took off from Melawi Regency at 7.34am local time. It lost contact at 8.39am while en route to Kubu Raya Regency. “The Consulate of Malaysia in Pontianak has extended the necessary consular assistance, including coordinating with the Indonesian authorities, the employer and the family to facilitate the repatriation of the remains to Malaysia,” the statement read. According to Indonesian authorities, the wreckage was located in a remote forested area in Desa Tapang Tingang, Sekadau.
