Two teenage girls, aged 15 and 17, drowned while swimming in a quarry pond at Kampung Gum-Gum in Sandakan on Sunday afternoon. Firefighters were alerted at 5:31pm and arrived at the scene at 5:59pm. One victim was found by the public before the fire and rescue team arrived, while the second was located by firefighters with public assistance. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by Ministry of Health personnel and their bodies were handed over to police for further action.
