Douglas Uggah Embas said the Sarawak Ports Master Plan marks a historic first transformative initiative that positions the state as a key player in global trade and logistics.
Sarawak has strong potential to become a regional trade hub through a more intensive implementation of the free trade zone model, deputy premier Douglas Uggah Embas said today.Uggah, who is also Sarawak’s infrastructure and port development minister, said the state can learn from the success of Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates, where the integration of a modern port with a FTZ attracted more than 11,000 companies worldwide and now contributes 36% to Dubai’s gross domestic product.
