SYDNEY: A staircase at Parramatta Public School in Sydney, Australia, was meant to be a nod to diversity.
A COMPANY in Selangor has completed an inaugural shipment of a 100% Malaysian-made rear fan case to Rolls-Royce plc in Derby in the United Kingdom , the state government says.
State Islamic religious affairs and cultural innovation committee chairman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said this was the first time a critical engine component for civil aviation has been manufactured by a local company.
"I consider this a remarkable achievement for Sime UMW’s aerospace unit - UMW Aerospace - based in Serendah, Selangor. "The production requires high-precision engineering and specialised processes, showcasing the talent and technical expertise within the state," he said. The achievement was commemorated during a visit to the manufacturing plant graced by Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and state investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han were also present during the visit.
"The heart of this success is a 100% Malaysian workforce, cultivated through close collaboration with our universities and vocational education and training institutions," Ng said in a Facebook post. "Selangor remains fully committed to supporting the industry, nurturing talent and securing high-value investments, ensuring our companies continue to compete and succeed on the global stage," he said.
Sime UMV said in a media statement that the rear fan case programme secured in 2022 represented UMW Aerospace’s second contract with Rolls-Royce, following its initial engagement to supply front fan cases.
"With this milestone, both the front and rear fan cases supplied to Rolls-Royce are now fully Malaysian-made," the statement said.
