Hyperscale data centres in Malaysia are projected to require over 5GW of reliable power by 2035, PETALING JAYA: Infrastructure firm Gamuda Bhd and clean energy company Gentari Sdn will jointly develop approximately 1.5GW of renewable energy capacity as they seek to meet power demand for hyperscale data centres in Malaysia. The companies will develop solar photovoltaic power plants paired with battery energy storage systems , according to a joint statement today.
'Hyperscale data centres in Malaysia are projected to require over 5GW of reliable power by 2035, underscoring the urgent need to expand renewable energy capacity to meet rising demand,' they said. The announcement comes days after Gamuda said it was teaming up with SD Guthrie Bhd to develop, own and operate solar power assets with an accumulated target capacity of 1.2GW. Gamuda has been a key beneficiary of Malaysia’s ambitions to become a major data centre powerhouse.
