KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 — UMW Toyota Motor officially launched the all-new Toyota Yaris Cross last week, adding a B-segment SUV to its Malaysian line-up with petrol and hybrid variants priced from RM99,900 and RM109,900 respectively.

In a press statement, UMW Toyota Motor said the locally assembled Yaris Cross is now available for booking at authorised Toyota dealerships nationwide, with both variants assembled at Toyota’s Bukit Raja plant in Selangor.

“Our approach has always been to introduce technologies that are relevant to how Malaysians drive today, and hybrid continues to offer a clear and accessible pathway towards electrification,” said UMW Toyota Motor president Datuk Ravindran K. The new model is pitched at buyers looking for a compact SUV with hybrid efficiency, practical space and Toyota’s usual aftersales support, rather than just a taller-looking city car. The hybrid variant uses a 1.5-litre engine paired with Toyota’s fourth-generation hybrid electric system, producing a total system output of 111PS and claimed fuel consumption of between 27.8km/litre and 33.3km/litre in Toyota factory tests.

For those who prefer a simpler petrol option, the other variant gets a 1.5-litre engine with CVT, producing 106PS and 138Nm of torque. Buyers also get everyday-friendly equipment including a 10.1-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, rear USB-C ports, a powered tailgate with kick sensor and a 471-litre boot.

On the safety front, the Yaris Cross comes with Toyota Safety Sense, which includes features such as Pre-Collision System, adaptive cruise control, lane support, Automatic High Beam, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. It also has 210mm ground clearance and a claimed 600mm water-wading capability, which may matter to Malaysian drivers dealing with rougher roads and sudden flash floods.

The Yaris Cross comes with a five-year unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty, while the hybrid battery gets an eight-year unlimited-mileage warranty that can be extended to 10 years.
