The event, held at St. Pius X College, Goregaon, brought together key figures from diverse sectors to commemorate the FCCO's journey, achievements, and future aspirations.
The Federation of Centres for Community Organization ( FCCO ) celebrated its 30th anniversary with a commemorative event at St. Pius X College in Goregaon, Mumbai . The event, attended by religious leaders, activists, and community workers, highlighted the FCCO 's journey from its establishment in 1994 to its current status as a vital network of community centers empowering grassroots movements across the city. Founded by Bishop Allwyn D'Silva and Sr.
Seema, the FCCO has dedicated three decades to advocating for the rights of marginalized communities. The celebration commenced with a prayer by Fr. Jervis D'Souza, Secretary of the Social Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Bombay, who invoked Scripture to encapsulate the FCCO's mission: “He sent me to set the captives free.” Cardinal Oswald Gracias, the chief guest, participated in a symbolic tree-watering ceremony alongside other dignitaries, representing the FCCO's sustained growth and resilience. A documentary produced by the Catholic Communication Centre chronicled the FCCO's evolution from its humble beginnings to its powerful position as a champion for social justice. The film served as a testament to the organization's transformative impact on Mumbai's most vulnerable communities. Adding a theatrical element, a satirical play directed by sociologist and art director Dr. Omkar Bhatkar depicted the innovative strategies employed by communities to assert their rights. The FCCO honored its pioneers during the event. Sr. Seema received a special felicitation from Cardinal Gracias, while Bishop Allwyn D'Silva was presented with a certificate of honor for his visionary leadership. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to grassroots workers who have been instrumental in driving the FCCO's mission. Dr. Vibhuti Patel, former head of the Economics Department at SNDT College, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the FCCO's crucial role in dismantling caste and social barriers. She lauded the organization's unwavering commitment to community development, stating, “People’s Power is the need of the hour.” The event also marked the launch of the Centre for Peace Trust’s official website and social media platforms, aimed at expanding its outreach and engagement.
