CEBU: Under the sweltering heat in this central Philippine province known for its beaches, convoys swept down palm-lined roads carrying South-East Asian leaders bound for the Asean Summit.
TELUK INTAN: Four men were charged in the Magistrate’s Court with the murder of an elderly man using a machete. SRC Parkash Rao, MV Aligeswaran, T. Tiagesan and K. Shanker, all aged 25, nodded after the charge was read out before magistrate Naidatul Athirah Azman here yesterday.
However, no plea was recorded as the case comes under the jurisdiction of the High Court, Bernama reported. They are accused of allegedly acting together, along with another person still at large, to murder N. Jeyagoby, 70, at Pekan Baru, Hilir Perak, between 6am and 6.30am on April 17.
The charge was under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or jail of up to 40 years, and if not sentenced to death, to be liable to no less than 12 strokes of the rotan, upon conviction. No bail was offered, as the case falls under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
