Ford Everest Platinum Set to Arrive in Malaysia

Ford teases a new Everest variant at The Arch Galeries, KL from 5-7 June, likely the Platinum trim. Based on the Ranger Platinum, it adds luxury features like matrix LED headlamps, quilted leather, heated/ventilated seats, Bang & Olufsen audio, and full ADAS suite. Expected pricing above the Wildtrak.

and you’ll see this.

“Something new is on the horizon. Arriving at The Arch Galeries, KL from 5–7 June” says the post caption. Those are clearly Ford Everest tail lamps, and as the Ranger-based SUV can already be had in Sport, Trend, Titanium and Wildtrak variants in Malaysia, is it the Platinum variant that’s coming? For an idea of what to expect, we could look at the Ranger Platinum, which was launched in Malaysia in 2023.

By the way, Platinum is the ‘luxury’ flavour that sits above the Wildtrak – this ties in with the ‘new peak of luxury’ tagline above. Some of the Ranger Platinum’s items are actually already on the Everest Wildtrak, including 20-inch alloys, the bigger 12.4-inch instrument panel and Active Park Assist 2.0.

But perhaps the other items – matrix LED headlamps, silver bits on the grille, quilted leather upholstery, heated/ventilated seats, 10-way powered front seats with three memory settings, Bang & Olufsen speakers, ambient lighting, accent stitching, matte wood trim and ‘Platinum’ metal badges on the front seats, glove box lid, carpets and door sills – could make their way to the Everest Platinum.

This is going to be the range-topping Everest, so we’d expect no less than a full ADAS suite – the Ranger Platinum has AEB with pedestrian protection, ACC with stop-and-go and lane centring, lane change warning and aid, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert, post-collision/secondary collision brake, evasive steer assist, reverse brake assist, trailer assist/sway assist, rollover mitigation, hill launch assist, hill descent control and brake assist. Seven airbags are very much expected.

There could be a Platinum-exclusive body colour too – the Ranger Platinum has Equinox Bronze, so will the Everest Platinum get it too, or a different colour? Lastly, pricing. The Ranger Platinum asks for RM15k more than its similarly-engined Wildtrak counterpart, but it’s a pick-up truck and so is taxed differently from an SUV like the Everest. The Everest Wildtrak already costs RM339k, so…While most dream of the future, Jonathan Tan dreams of the past, although he's never been there.

Fantasises much too often about cruising down Treacher Road in a Triumph Stag that actually works, and hopes this stint here will snap him back to present reality.
