Renowned director Syafiq Yusof shares his insights on the controversial use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the film Duyung: Legenda Aurora. Discussing the potential and pitfalls of AI in filmmaking, he offers a measured perspective on the technology's future and its implications for the industry. He reflects on the initial negative reactions to CGI and draws parallels with the current debate surrounding AI, suggesting a need for careful implementation and responsible experimentation.

The film Duyung: Legenda Aurora , estimated to have cost around RM2 million to produce, has been met with criticism from the public. Despite earning almost RM300,000 on its first day of release, the film directed by Datuk Prof. Dr. Abdul Razak Mohaideen is considered a failure by a large number of critics. They are largely disappointed, especially when artificial intelligence (AI) technology was used not only in the production of posters, but also in several scenes within the film.

The issue of AI usage in this film has been raised to local filmmakers. Recently, the acclaimed director, Syafiq Yusof, shared his views after the press conference and launch of the film Black Ops: Operasi Serigala. Below, we outline Syafiq's perspective on the use of AI and its impact on the future of the nation's filmmaking. \What is Syafiq's view on the use of AI in a significant number of scenes in the film Duyung: Legenda Aurora? I haven't watched the film yet. But I can classify it as a bold attempt. For me, it's a good effort even though many people are criticizing it. At least, we already have a film that uses AI. Questions will arise if we haven't used AI in films while we've started using that technology for many things. In the past, many people rejected computer-generated imagery (CGI) when it was introduced because it was considered unrealistic. But now, many films use CGI. In my opinion, the AI issue is the same. It's a new technology, not yet suitable for fully producing a film. To assist in the production of special effects is not a problem. For now, not yet. For me, we're still not ready in that direction. I still hold on to realistic shots. But I don't oppose its use in films. I just agree that we need to use AI wisely and responsibly. \What steps can be taken now to make the best use of AI in film production? We can already experiment and start many studies on it. The public needs to know that the details of special effects are now equipped with AI technology. How does Syafiq see the future of this technology in the world of filmmaking? We can predict that AI will one day enable filmmakers to produce films even without a large amount of funds. And the probability is that in the next 4 to 5 years, films using AI will increase because their fans are increasing. Do not want to miss out? Follow us a
