Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the Deputy Prime Minister, announces new curriculum for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme to shift focus from traditional courses to areas like robotics, IoT, AI, renewable energy, animation, gig work opportunities and further economic empowerment.
IPOH: The Technical and Vocational Education and Training programme curriculum will be restructured to focus more on Information Technology, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Deputy Prime Minister said it would be relaunched as TVET 2.0 to build on the programme's success.
"While maintaining the existing traditional courses, we will strengthen areas in robotics, the Internet of Things , Artificial Intelligence , renewable energy, as well as other fields that are highly needed by the market. "This includes animation, which is highly needed because many animation companies worldwide have subcontracted the production of animation to companies in Malaysia," he said at a press conference after opening Jelajah AIM TVET at the Sultan Azlan Shah Roundabout in Meru Raya here on Saturday .
"We are also looking at where broader opportunities are given to gig workers, especially food delivery riders and goods delivery personnel, as well as workers in the film industry and other supporting industries, including arts and culture," he added. Regarding the Bumiputera Education Congress's proposal to establish a TVET Act, Zahid Hamidi said it was possible.
"This is to expand their jurisdiction so that its effectiveness will be greater, and we also see that the TVET Act will further strengthen the existing education system. "This ecosystem will certainly change not only in terms of opportunities for further studies, but it will also be channelled into entrepreneurship while continuing their studies at all universities," he said, adding that the establishment of a TVET Commission has also been suggested.
"With the act and commission, which we hope can be done by 2030, it will be able to elevate the status of TVET graduates to a higher level," he added. He said engagement sessions are ongoing to gather feedback on how the act and commission could drive TVET development, not only for the year 2030 but beyond 2050.
