Confirming the matter, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the charges would proceed following approval from the public prosecutor and the Attorney General. “Regarding the Department of Environment case, we have already obtained the consent of the public prosecutor or the Attorney General, and it is expected that charges will be filed tomorrow against both the director-general and the deputy director-general. “I hope there will be no last-minute changes and that they will be charged in court as scheduled,” he said at a press conference after attending the MATF: Way Forward Engagement Session at the MACC headquarters here today. Both senior DOE officials were previously detained under the MACC Act 2009 on suspicion of involvement in corruption linked to the management of electronic waste, a case that has been under investigation since early this year. Azam had earlier said the MACC would intensify its efforts to combat corruption involving the management of e-waste and plastic waste, following developments implicating senior officers within the department. — Bernama
