Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Malaysia's Communications Minister, has called for no pardon or clemency for fugitive financier Low Taek Jho or Jho Low, urging him to return to Malaysia to face the law. Fahmi's comments came during the Lembah Pantai Teachers' Day celebration on Thursday (May 14).
KUALA LUMPUR: There should be no pardon or clemency for fugitive financier Low Taek Jho or Jho Low , who must return to Malaysia to face the law, says Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil .
Echoing the call by 1Malaysia Development Berhad task force chairman Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, he said Jho Low's alleged wrongdoing and the damage to the country were too great to overlook.
"Although the matter has not yet been discussed by the government, as the news broke during yesterday’s Cabinet meeting, I agree with Johari that Jho Low should not be forgiven. "There should be no forgiveness or clemency given to someone like him," he said when met by reporters at the Lembah Pantai Teachers’ Day celebration on Thursday .
Jho Low faces multiple charges, including corruption and money laundering, in the United States and Malaysia, over his alleged role in the misappropriation of at least US$4.5bil from 1MDB. It was reported that he sought a pardon from US President Donald Trump after submitting a pardon application to the US Department of Justice this year, according to a notice posted on its website.
