KUALA LUMPUR : Two men have been fined RM1,300 and, in default of payment, sentenced to a month in jail by the Sessions Court here for throwing cigarette butts and wooden pallets in a public place.
A coffee chain outlet employee, Ahmad Farhan Abdul Ghani, 35, and fruit seller Mohd Hafizi Mohd Raduan, 48, were also ordered to perform four hours of community service by Sessions Court judge Siti Shakirah Mohtaruddin here on Tuesday .
"The summoned persons are ordered to complete the four-hour community service within a month from the date of the court notice, to be issued today,” she said here on Tuesday. Ahmad Farhan and Mohd Hafizi pleaded guilty to charges under Section 77A of the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management 2007.
According to the charge sheet, Ahmad Farhan threw cigarette butts, a form of solid waste, in a public place instead of using the designated waste container next to a hotel in Bukit Bintang at 7.06pm on Jan 3. Meanwhile, Mohd Hafizi admitted to throwing wooden pallets and commercial waste in a public place instead of using the designated waste container in front of a shop at Jalan Ipoh, Pusat Bandar Utara Selayang, here at 3.40pm on Jan 17.
According to the facts of the case, the two men were seen committing the offences by several enforcement officers from SWCorp during operations on Jan 3 and Jan 17. Prosecuting officer Wan Mohd Hardy Alias from SWCorp asked the court to impose a sentence that would serve as a lesson for the community.
“The two men are fit, physically and mentally, to serve in community service. We ask the court to issue an order that could be a lesson to the public,” he said. Malaysia's inflation rate remains stable, lower than regional peersCourt acquits former Perlis MB's son of RM19,505 false claim charge
