Australia's financial crimes watchdog warned of a heightened threat of money laundering linked to artificial intelligence that has been used by crooks to scale up activities, automate processes and create fake documents.

REMBAU : A 65-year-old retired police sergeant was detained following a high-speed 50km pursuit after she allegedly crashed into two vehicles and fled the scene. The cross-border chase, involving police teams from here and Melaka , ended with the suspect’s arrest along Jalan Bukit Beruang in Melaka .

Acting Rembau OCPD Deputy Supt Azmi Ali said the incident began in Taman Sedia Raja, Chembong, where the suspect’s car allegedly crashed into a van and another car.

“A patrol unit dispatched to the scene spotted the vehicle and attempted to intercept it, but the driver refused to stop, triggering the pursuit,” he said in a statement. He said a search found nothing incriminating on the suspect’s body, but police found four pills believed to be ecstasy in a bag in the suspect’s car.

“The police will apply for an order to remand the suspect from the magistrate’s court in Ayer Keroh today,” he said. The case is being investigated under Section 12 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959. Penang ramps up digitalisation to boost revenue, cut federal reliance
